Bellwork
1. Record homework in planner. 2. Bellwork: Complete 8th Grade Math Minute 85. Go over correct answers, correct mistakes and record score in Math Minute journal. 3. Pass back and go over "Basic Geometry Test." Lesson (Congruent Triangles) 1. Preassessment 2. Introduction to congruent triangles problem: Prior to the start of a yacht race, you (the judging official) must certify that all of the sails are the same size. Without unrigging the triangular sails from their masts, how can the official (you) determine if the sails on each of the boats are the same size? 3. List students' suggested solutions to the problem on a SmartBoard document. 4. Give each student a ruler, a new pencil, and a protractor. Ask each student to make a triangle using these 3 items. The 3 sides of the triangles should be equivalent to the lengths of the objects. 5. Ask students to compare their triangles with the triangles of other students at their table. Ask students if everyone in class created the same triangle (Yes!). Prove it by having students cut out their triangles and stack them. 6. Note to the class that we did nothing with the angles. They "took care of themselves." This is called SSS congruence. All we need are two congruent corresponding sides in 2 triangles, and we know all 3 sides are congruent. 7. Have students draw another triangle using the 3 objects, but this time they should make one side only 8 or 9 inches. Discuss the findings. How do we know if any two of their triangles are congruent? 8. Relate SSS Congruence to the yacht problem. 7. Journal entry: If two triangles are congruent, all of their corresponding parts are congruent. Draw 2 triangles. Color code and list their corresponding parts. 8. Independent practicecomplete SSS Congruence worksheet for homework. Color code corresponding sides. Homework Complete "SSS Congruence" worksheet. Color code corresponding sides. Other Please keep your math binder organized. Refer back to your journal entry if you need help with the homework. There will be a brief quiz over congruent triangle "rules" on Friday. Files

Using your protractor, make angle G =60. d. From vertex G, draw GI measuring 7 inches long. e. Label the end point I. f. Ask the class from the given information, how many different triangles can be formed? (One) g. Form Δ GHI. h. Discuss the information used to create this triangle. (SAS Side –Angle –Side). i. Complete similar steps to show ASA (Angle –Side –Angle) Congruence. 2. Guided practice: SSS, ASA, and SAS Triangle Congruence examples 3. Journal entry: definition of similar figures, AAA to prove two triangles are similar 3. Independent practice and onetoone instruction as needed with "Congruent and Similar Triangles" worksheet. Bellwork
1. Record homework in planner. 2. Bellwork: Complete 8th Grade Math Minute 88. Papers will be collected and graded. 3. Answers to the "Congruent and Similar Triangles Review" worksheet will be posted for students to check their own work. Students will be given time to ask questions before the test. Lesson (Congruent Triangles Quiz/Introduction to Scale Factor) 1. Students will complete the "Congruent Triangles" quiz. 2. Question: What is the difference between congruent and similar? 3. Journal entry: definitions of congruent and simliar 4. Give students each a ruler, protractor, and a worksheet with similar polygons. Ask students to measure and record all of the side lengths in centimeters. 5. Question: How can we prove that these polygons are similar? 6. Journal entry: Corresponding sides in similar polygons are proportional. 7. Refer back to the similar polygons worksheet. Color code and list the corresponding sides. 8. Question: How do we prove that our sides are proportional? 9. Refer back to similar polygons worksheet. Create proportions. Check the proportions. 10.
