## Monday, September 8, 2014

**Students will complete the Star Math Test if mobile cart is available. Otherwise, the following plans will be followed.**

Students will complete several problems involving adding and subtracting integers.

Students will turn in homework to the homework tray.

__Lesson__(Multiplying and Dividing Integers)

1. The teacher will review the rules for adding and subtracting integers.

2. Students will complete a 10 point quiz over adding and subtracting integers.

3. The teacher will generate interest in the lesson by showing the "Multiplying Integers Song" from TeacherTube: http://www.teachertube.com/video/multiplying-integers-songrap-301706

4. Journal entry: rules for multiplying and dividing integers, and sample problems

5. The teacher will give each student a multiplication chart to put in his/her binder. The teacher will demonstrate how to use a multiplication chart.

6. Guided practice with dry erase boards and markers: multiplying and dividing integers

7. Class cooperative game: Integers Jeopardy at

8. Independent practice and individual assistance as needed with "Multiplying and Dividing Integers" worksheet

Students will have 3 minutes to complete an exit ticket with several integer problems involving multiplication and division. Students will be given 2 minutes to discuss the problems with a peer before turning in their exit tickets.

Complete "Positive and Negative Numbers" in Study Island.

Complete "Multiplying and Dividing Integers" worksheet.

There will be a quiz over integers (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing) on Wednesday.

__Other__

The teacher will discuss procedures for completing a lesson in Study Island.

__Lesson__(Integers Review)

1. Teacher will review adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers "rules" and strategies.

2. Student will play "Ultimate Integers War" or "Integers Tic-Tac-Toe" in pairs to review adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers.

3. The teacher will circulate and assist individual students as needed.

4. Students who finish early will use "Integer Games" links on my webpage to review integers.

__Closing__

Students will complete exit ticket: "Describe what you have learned about integers."

__Homework__

Log into XtraMath. Complete one lesson.

There will be a quiz over integers tomorrow.

Complete the "Integers Review" worksheet.

__Other__

Students will add blank vocabulary forms to their math journal's vocabulary section.

__Bellwork__

Students will complete Math Minute 3 from

*8th Grade Math Minutes*.

__Lesson__(One-Step Equations)

1. The teacher will generate interest in the lesson by showing students a photograph of a flock of birds and giving them an interesting word problem. Students will be challenged to write an equation to go with the words.

2. The teacher will give each student 2 colored pencils (different colors).

3. Journal entry: definition of expression, equation, coefficient, variable, operation, and constant.

4. The teacher will model steps for solving one-step equations. Students will copy sample problems into their journals using the colored pencils to highlight the variable and separate the two expressions.

5. Guided practice using SmartBoard, dry erase boards and markers

6. Students will work in cooperative pairs to complete one step equations task cards.

__Closing__

Group discussion: each student will share one specific thing he/she learned in math today.

__Homework__

Students will complete "One-Step Equations" worksheet.

Students will complete a sampling of one- and two-step equations in their math journals.

__Lesson__(One- and Two-Step Equations Review)

1. The teacher will review steps for solving one- and two-step equations.

2. Students will participate in a math stations activity circulating around the room completing one- and two-step equations task cards they began working on Tuesday and Wednesday. The teacher will meet with individual students and small groups to go over the homework and provide additional guided practice as needed. Students will self-check completed task cards answer sheets against the teacher key after showing the teacher their completed sheets.
